Dr. Jeon received the B.S. degree (Magna Cum Laude) in 1985 and the M.S. degree in 1987 from the Department of Electronics Engineering, Seoul National University, Seoul, Korea, and the Ph.D. degree from the School of Electrical Engineering, Purdue University, West Lafayette, USA, in 1992.

From 1993 to 1997, he was in the Signal Processing Laboratory, Samsung Electronics, Korea, where he worked for research and development of video compression algorithms, design of digital broadcasting satellite receivers, and other MPEG-related research for multimedia applications. Since September 1997, he has been with the faculty of the School of Information and Communication Engineering, Sungkyunkwan University, Suwon, Korea, where he is currently a professor. He has authored many papers in the areas of video compression, pre/post processing, and pattern recognition. He also holds more than 50 issued patents (Korea and Worldwide) in these areas. His research interests include multimedia signal processing, video compression, statistical pattern recognition, and remote sensing.

Dr. Jeon is a member of Tau Beta Pi and Eta Kappa Nu. He is a senior member of IEEE, member of SPIE, IEEK, KICS, and KOSBE. He also regularly participates and contributes to international standardization activities, e.g., ITU-T VCEG and ISO/IEC MPEG.
